Press releases, 07.05.2024

On 7 May 2024, Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter, Head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF), received her Luxembourg counterpart Gilles Roth for a working visit. The ministers discussed global and European financial developments and the most important international financial and tax issues. As export-oriented economies with major financial centres, Switzerland and Luxembourg often pursue common interests and represent converging views in international bodies.

At their first official meeting, Minister of Finance Gilles Roth and Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter exchanged views on the macroeconomic situation and financial regulation in the EU. The Federal Council report on banking stability was another topic of discussion, as was the importance of international cooperation in this area. The finance ministers also discussed the repercussions of Russia's war on Ukraine. Other topics were bilateral collaboration in the area of sustainable finance, taxing the digital economy and cross-border remote working.

Commenting on the meeting, Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter said: "Switzerland and Luxembourg have many things in common, especially a prudent budget policy and low debt. This is important to ensure the state's ability to act."
