Travelling to Switzerland 

Due to COVID-19, the Swiss government has enacted entry restrictions for travelers from certain countries and territories. These travelers can only enter Switzerland under certain conditions (“essential travels only”). 

A list of countries exempt from entry restrictions (“non-high risk countries”) can be found here.

Can I enter Switzerland from Canada?  No.

Are there exceptions?    Yes:

  • Swiss citizens (if you do not have a valid Swiss passport, please contact the Consulate General in Vancouver)
  • Permanent residents in Switzerland with proof of permanent residency.
  • EU/EFTA citizens with a valid passport
  • Canadians citizens and permanent residents in Canada for documented essential purposes only, subject to authorization.

Do I have to present a negative PCR Covid-test before boarding the plane? 
Yes, you have to present valid proof of a negative PCR test, taken not more than 72 hours (time of specimen collection) before boarding. Children under the age of 12 years are exempt from the test requirement.

Please note that airlines decide on the conditions by which they carry passengers. The Swiss authorities have no influence on the decision. It is therefore recommended to ask the airline concerned about the conditions that apply before booking a flight.

Quarantine in Switzerland

Travelers from certain countries and territories entering Switzerland have to go into mandatory quarantine. The list of countries is regularly upated. 

Travelers from Canada: No quarantine mandate in place when entering Switzerland.
Travelers from the Commonwealth of the Bahamas: No quarantine mandate in place when entering Switzerland.
