The embassy is pleased to participate in the 2025 European Film Festival (EUFF), taking place from 23 April to 24 May. As part of this celebration of European cinema, we are excited to present Savages, a Swiss film that is part of this year's diverse selection of European cinema. The EUFF continues its tradition of collaboration with Singaporean filmmakers, with a special focus on short films, highlighting the country's rich short film heritage.
The Swiss entry to this year’s festival is ‘Savages’ (2024), directed by Claude Barras, known for ‘Ma Vie de Courgette’ (2016), which earned an Oscar nomination. This stop-motion animated film was featured at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and premiered in the Young Audiences section of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Synopsis:
In Borneo, near the tropical forest, Kéria rescues a baby orangutan in the palm oil plantation where her father works. Kéria's cousin Selaï comes to live with them seeking refuge from the conflict between his indigenous tribe and the logging companies. Kéria, Selaï and the little orangutan, now named Oshi, will have to fight against their forest’s destruction. But for Keria, the fight will also allow her to discover the truth of her own origins.
This screening also offers a perfect opportunity for those who missed the film's earlier screening at the Francophonie Festival to experience it.
