Beatrice Maser Mallor is Switzerland’s new representative at World Bank

On 21 February the Federal Council named Beatrice Maser Mallor as Switzerland’s executive director at the World Bank in Washington DC and appointed her ambassador. From the summer of this year, Ms Maser Mallor (62) will take on the chair of the constituency headed by Switzerland. In 2026 to 2028, she will represent Switzerland as deputy executive director, when Poland takes on the chair.

In February 2020 Beatrice Maser Mallor became Regional Director Middle East and North Africa at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Cairo and since summer 2021 has been Special Representative Western Europe at the IFC in Paris. She was previously the Swiss ambassador to Vietnam. From 2001 to 2004, she was seconded to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London and subsequently headed the Export and Location Promotion section at SECO. At the end of 2008, she was appointed to SECO's executive board and until August 2015 she headed the Economic Cooperation and Development division as Federal Council ambassador and delegate for trade agreements. She originally completed an undergraduate degree in architecture and a postgraduate degree in global development (NADEL), both at ETH Zurich. She also has an Executive MBA in Business Engineering from the University of St Gallen. 

Switzerland has been a member of the World Bank since 1992. The Office of the Executive Director, which has 25 directors, determines operational, financial and administrative policy and, in particular, deliberates on the annual financial and business programme and the administrative budget. The directors decide on country and sector strategies as well as the funding of development programmes and projects. The Swiss executive director represents the interests of Switzerland and those of the other countries in the constituency, namely Azerbaijan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Poland, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
