Protection of Orphans and Vulnerable children in Zimbabwe
The project aims at strengthening the social protection systems in Zimbabwe in order to reduce widespread household poverty, provide for basic needs, and give care and support to the most vulnerable children, in particular those affected by HIV/AIDS. Zimbabwe being currently in a process of transition and recovery, Switzerland has chosen to participate in a trust fund managed by UNICEF, to avoid disbursements or procurements through the (still weak) government system.

Contexte |
Zimbabwe is on a recovery path following a decade long economic and social deterioration that also eroded public services and culminated in a severe humanitarian crisis with widespread food shortages and a cholera epidemic. Today, an estimated 3 million children live below the food poverty line, suffer from severe deprivations and are affected by HIV/AIDS. As a result of the social effects of HIV/AIDS, many affected children are highly vulnerable as they are likely to be victims of abuse, drop out of school and lack access to basic services. |
Objectifs |
Re-establish social protection schemes which ensures that by 2020 all children in Zimbabwe live in a safe, secure, and supportive environment that is conducive to child growth and development. |
