Wide spread Replication of Successful Post Harvest Technology in Latin America

With this project, SDC in partnership with private sector actors aims at increasing income and food security of 130’000 rural families in 5 Latin American countries. Selling post-production solutions for maize and beans to subsistence and low-income farmers will allow agribusiness companies to enter into new markets, while reducing postharvest losses and improving life conditions for small farmers. Replication of the business model will be supported by conducive policies and knowledge management.

Social Safety Net Transfer Modalities

Despite solid progress in poverty reduction, malnutrition (in particular of children) remains a serious challenge to public health and overall development in Bangladesh. The Social Safety Net Transfer Modalities project assesses which transfer modalities are most effective in reaching the ultra-poor and improving their nutrition status. The action-research project allows for evidence-based advocacy in poverty-nutrition issues and improved of social safety net programmes in Bangladesh and will inform respective policy development.

UNICEF: Rapid Response to Movements of Population (RRMP)

Continuing clashes between Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the March 23 Movement (M23) in North Kivu Province in eastern DRC is causing immense human suffering. Further military confrontations will have heavy consequences for civilians. Humanitarian agencies continue to provide aid in areas where they have access.

Good Urban Governance

Jointly funded by BMZ and SDC and implemented by GIZ, the Urban Governance project will support municipalities in SDC’s main geographic region of intervention. Participating municipalities will benefit from capacity building and targeted urban infrastructure based on citizens’ needs and cooperate in country-wide experience sharing platforms. This mutually beneficial cooperation will allow SDC to participate in GIZ’s broad experience in the field of urban development and validate its expertise in local governance processes in rural Bangladesh.

Economic Empowerment of the Poorest / SHIREE

The programme Economic Empowerment of the Poorest, funded by DFID since 2008, has the objective to lift 1 million people out of extreme poverty and support Bangladesh in its endeavour to attain the MDGs 1/2. It is implemented as a challenge fund, which sub-contracts local and international NGOs on a competitive basis to implement innovative poverty reduction projects. The aim of the present proposal is to partner with DFID and co-finance this successful programme for the remaining duration of the first phase until 2015.

Regional Economic Development in Macedonia (RED) – Contribution to GiZ Programme

The level of development of Macedonia’s 8 regions is highly dispersed. A national system for balanced regional development was built up since 2005 with the support of the German Government (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH); however, it is still facing challenges in ensuring adequate implementation. SDC will co-finance this final project phase in order to contribute to the improvement of governance and policy coordination on regional level.

Education and vocational training for Roma children

Albania's social safety net has to be strengthened to address the conditions faced by marginalised groups, in particular the Roma. The project integrates Roma children into the education system, provides tools and skills to local social care services, and documents best cases of social inclusion for futher replication.

ProCAP - Vocational Skills Development Program

Vocational skills development is key to poverty reduction in Bolivia. Since 2006, Switzerland is working in this area with important effects in training quality and amplification of coverage in rural areas. This credit is proposed to further broaden coverage (reaching marginal urban populations of 4’200 men and women) and foster sustainability by strengthening training for technical instructors (650 trained teachers with quality).

Seguros Inclusivos

El Proyecto Seguros Inclusivos es una iniciativa de la Cooperación Suiza ejecutado por la Fundación PROFIN que tiene como objetivo contribuir a la reducción de la pobreza y aumentar la capacidad de resiliencia de la población urbana, periurbana y rural de Bolivia. Durante su segunda fase (2016-2019) el Proyecto ha contribuido a desarrollar e introducir exitosamente en el mercado, productos de seguros inclusivos adecuados a la población objetivo.

Förderung von Innovation im Landwirtschaftssektor, PIC

In den ersten beiden Phasen des Projekts (2007 – 2012) ist es gelungen, Innovationen für die landwirtschaftliche Produktion zu entwickeln, die bei 15‘000 Familien zu Produktivitätssteigerungen geführt haben. Damit konnten die Ernährungssicherheit und die Einkommen verbessert werden. In einer 1-jähringen Zwischenfase wird die Entwicklung von Innovationen weiter ausgedehnt, eine 2-jährige Schlussphase ist geplant und die Unterstützung des nationalen Forschungsprogramms vorbereitet.

Contribution to the Review of the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD Beyond 2014 Review)

The review of the implementation of the Program of Action (PoA) of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo will reveal the progress made, but also the considerable gaps that still exist. In 2010 the UN General Assembly noted that many governments may not meet all the goals and objectives by 2014. The review will identify the challenges that remain and will help to determine which measures need to be taken at the national, regional and global level to accelerate the implementation.
