Strengthening local and regional economies with the help of improved framework conditions

Switzerland is helping Serbia with the development of municipalities in structurally weak eastern Serbia. Municipalities are to be strengthened and the economic framework conditions improved with respect for the principles of good governance. Thanks to Switzerland‘s contribution municipalities now dispose of additional financial resources for the introduction and improvement of public services.

Contribution to the Constitutional Reform (CR) in Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH)

The Constitutional Reform process in BiH is a long-term oriented, culture-changing endeavor; it is notably difficult in the complex state system, with two very autonomous Entities and a rather weak Central State. However, the emergence of a new ruling coalition, in February 2012, set the basis for positive developments; politicians act with greater sense of urgency to meet the conditions for BiH’s Euro-Atlantic integration. Using this momentum, aware actors at all levels of BiH's society and the political system can be supported in their commitment to further develop and implement the Constitutional Reform as a supportive frame for sustainable development.

The context of arid zones in Kenya calls for a greater emphasis on preventive approaches and drought risk management both on local and regional scales. Surface water facilities, provided by low cost systems with simple maintenance alongside rangeland management are a key element of water supply for livestock and drought resilience in North Kenya where more than 80% of the population are pastoralists.

El considerable crecimiento económico en la RDP de Laos ha llevado a un aumento de los conflictos y de la competencia por la tierra, amenazando la seguridad alimentaria, los esfuerzos por reducir la pobreza y la biodiversidad. En 2009, la COSUDE lanzó el proyecto Rights-LINK para mejorar la gestión de la tierra y de los recursos naturales en el país. El objetivo del proyecto es garantizar que la legislación y los procesos de toma de decisiones relativos a la tierra y al uso de la tierra sean fundamentados y transparentes.

Improving Poland's road safety with Swiss expertise

With the ‘Road Safety’ project, Switzerland has contributed to improving road safety in Poland. The number of road deaths in Poland has been reduced as a result of knowledge exchanges and infrastructure improvements.   And the Swiss model for victim assistance served as the basis for a revision of the Polish road traffic act.

Desde el comienzo de la crisis en Siria, en marzo de 2011, cientos de miles de personas, la mayoría mujeres y niños, han huido a los países vecinos. Sobre todo en Líbano, muchos refugiados viven en familias de acogida, que son también pobres. La acción directa de la COSUDE «Cash for Hosting» apoya específicamente a estas familias y a los municipios en que viven con ayuda en efectivo.

Creation of a decentralized system for agricultural innovation, complementing the existing national system for agricultural innovation, and with emphasis on gender equality . The innovation system will contribute to the elimination of obstacles and brakes in foodstuff production, transformation and commercialization processes in 45 of the 168 Cuban municipalities. Quantity and quality of available food will thus increase as well as employment and income. Sustainability of the system will be achieved by becoming part of the municipal and national structures and policies.
