The SABA Water and Sanitation Experience: Boosting Impact at Global Scale
01.05.2012
- 31.08.2016
For one of the first time in its history, SDC can exert important leverage effects – with little funding – upon nation-wide and international scaling up operations in Peru. The Global Program Water Initiatives decided to support this new generation of projects to demonstrate how SDC can generate added value and influence the global debate. The Peruvian authorities want to capitalize on SDC 15-year experience in rural water and sanitation in rural areas for boosting full national coverage of such services. This initiative is a new generation of projets required to respond: to the water& sanitation MDG’s water related targets and to the human right to access to water & sanitation.

Improved living conditions for Roma in Slovakia
01.05.2012
- 30.06.2017
Integrating the Roma people into society presents a major challenge both to Slovakia and for the whole region. Currently, the Roma in Slovakia, who make up around 8.5% of the population in the eastern provinces of Kosice and Presov, are disadvantaged in comparison with the majority of the population. Typically, they live in badly constructed, dilapidated housing and rarely have access to education or healthcare services. The poor living conditions lead to long-term unemployment and high levels of poverty. An SDC project being conducted within the framework of the enlargement contribution is designed to improve their living standard.

Surveys of protected species in Vas, Zala and Somogy
01.05.2012
- 31.12.2016
When the Natura 2000 sites in the counties Vas, Zala and Somogy were designated, several species have not been surveyed at all or just incompletely. This project fills this gap by surveying 90 data-deficient species (amphibians, reptiles, bats, butterflies, dragonflies, xilophag insects). Based on this data, protection measures are proposed which will contribute to the conservation of the Natura 2000 sites.
