Strengthening local and regional economies with the help of improved framework conditions

Switzerland is helping Serbia with the development of municipalities in structurally weak eastern Serbia. Municipalities are to be strengthened and the economic framework conditions improved with respect for the principles of good governance. Thanks to Switzerland‘s contribution municipalities now dispose of additional financial resources for the introduction and improvement of public services.

Contribution to the Constitutional Reform (CR) in Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH)

The Constitutional Reform process in BiH is a long-term oriented, culture-changing endeavor; it is notably difficult in the complex state system, with two very autonomous Entities and a rather weak Central State. However, the emergence of a new ruling coalition, in February 2012, set the basis for positive developments; politicians act with greater sense of urgency to meet the conditions for BiH’s Euro-Atlantic integration. Using this momentum, aware actors at all levels of BiH's society and the political system can be supported in their commitment to further develop and implement the Constitutional Reform as a supportive frame for sustainable development.

The context of arid zones in Kenya calls for a greater emphasis on preventive approaches and drought risk management both on local and regional scales. Surface water facilities, provided by low cost systems with simple maintenance alongside rangeland management are a key element of water supply for livestock and drought resilience in North Kenya where more than 80% of the population are pastoralists.

Il presente progetto mira a garantire la trasparenza e l'informazione nell'ambito della legislazione e dei processi decisionali concernenti le terre e il loro sfruttamento.

Know-how svizzero per una maggiore sicurezza stradale in Polonia

Con il progetto «Road Safety» la Svizzera ha contribuito a migliorare la sicurezza stradale in Polonia. Grazie allo scambio di conoscenze e al miglioramento delle infrastrutture è stato possibile ridurre la mortalità sulle strade. Il sistema svizzero di aiuto alle vittime è inoltre stato preso a modello per la revisione della legge sulla circolazione stradale.

Dall’inizio della crisi in Siria nel marzo 2011 centinaia di migliaia di persone, per lo più donne e bambini, sono fuggite nei Paesi vicini. Molti rifugiati hanno trovato alloggio presso famiglie in Libano, anch’esse povere. L’azione diretta «Cash Hosting» sostiene le famiglie e i comuni che ospitano queste persone con aiuti finanziari mirati.

Creation of a decentralized system for agricultural innovation, complementing the existing national system for agricultural innovation, and with emphasis on gender equality . The innovation system will contribute to the elimination of obstacles and brakes in foodstuff production, transformation and commercialization processes in 45 of the 168 Cuban municipalities. Quantity and quality of available food will thus increase as well as employment and income. Sustainability of the system will be achieved by becoming part of the municipal and national structures and policies.
