Supporting the Protection and Well-being of Ebola-Affected Children in West Africa

Progetto concluso

The potential for children to be separated from their families is heightened in Ebola Viral Disease (EVD)- affected countries due to parents being quarantined or treated for extended periods, parents dying, and the stigma associated with the disease leaving many children rejected/abandoned. With this project, family tracing, reunification support and alternative care shall be provided to 10,000 children to assure their successful reintegration into their families/communities. In fact, countries, communities, and other child protection actors need to reinforce case management/the identification, tracing and reunification (ITDR) system.

Contesto

Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea are facing the largest Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) outbreak ever recorded. The cumulative number of confirmed cases stands at 13,676 across the three countries, with an estimated 2,100 child deaths. Additionally, an estimate 7,500 children have lost at least one parent and now face stigma and discrimination from some of their other relatives and neighbours. No aspect of a child's life is untouched by this outbreak and children do not know how to respond.
