Dear Visitors,

I warmly welcome you to the website of the Embassy of Switzerland in Hungary.

Relations between Switzerland and Hungary date back to the 15th century. With the Reformation, and in particular Calvinism, a close cultural exchange began which continues to this day in many different forms. Our more recent history has been marked above all by the efforts of Swiss citizens during the Second World War in support of the Jewish population, as well as by Switzerland’s reception of over 12,000 Hungarian refugees after the 1956 uprising.

Following the end of communism, broad opportunities arose to deepen economic cooperation, which intensified even further after Hungary’s accession to the European Union in 2004. Today, more than 800 Swiss companies are present in Hungary, providing around 32,000 jobs. Switzerland is thus among the country’s most significant investors (currently ranked 7th).

Close cooperation in the fields of education, research and innovation, as well as the implementation of the Second Swiss Contribution since 2022, play a key role in ensuring that exchanges between our two countries will continue to thrive in the future.

On this website, you will find further information on the wide-ranging and close relations between Switzerland and Hungary. I also invite you to follow us on our social media channels (FacebookInstagram), where we regularly report on our activities.

For consular services, I kindly refer you to our competent Regional Consular Center in Vienna (contact details can be found in the right-hand column). At the same time, the Embassy in Budapest remains an active point of contact for the various associations and clubs with a Swiss connection in Hungary.

I look forward to continuing to nurture and strengthen the friendly relations between Switzerland and Hungary in the years to come.

Alexander Renggli
