Chandigarh is a city with a strong Swiss connect. Designed by the Swiss French architect Le Corbusier, the city was planned as an example of a modern city of independent India. The Swiss connection with the city became stronger with the fact that the cousin of Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret was appointed the first chief architect of the city.
Nearly one dozen universities, architectural colleges and research institutes are participating in the webinar series, which aims at starting a dialogue amongst all stakeholders on the urgent issues of the city and the upcoming metropolitan region around it. The discussion will be carried forward on the social media platforms of the event to facilitate collective participation and understanding for a sustainable future.
H.E. Dr. Ralf Heckner, Ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. Noted Swiss experts Dr. Philip Ursprung, Professor, History of Art and Architecture, Department of Architecture, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich; Dr. Tom Avermaete, Professor, History and Theory of Urban Design, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich; and Dr. Laurent Stalder, Chair for the Theory of Architecture, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland; will share their views on the subject. Well-known Indian architects, politicians, bureaucrats and senior advocates will also participate in the discussions.
