Clean Energy Policy (CEP)

Progetto concluso

India has put forth an ambitious plan for decarbonisation of its economy as part of the post 2020 Nationally Determined Contribution under Paris Climate Agreement. The achievement of these targets needs development of appropriate energy transition in the coming two years (2018-19). This single-phase project will support the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation to setup a Platform which will deliberate on the energy choices and solutions.

Contesto India’s climate commitments are embedded in its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Climate Agreement. India aims to reduce the emission intensity of its GDP by 33-35 per cent by 2030 from 2005 level and increase the share of non-fossil in the total installed power generation capacity to about 40% by 2030. India has identified that it would need investments of over USD 2.5 trillion to finance its domestic commitments under Paris Agreement. India is also emerging as a key player on global energy diplomacy. Recently, together with France, India has launched International Solar Alliance, which aims at facilitating advance solar energy technologies and investments in solar projects.

Appreciating this fact, the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF) proposes to set up an Energy Transition Platform based on discussions with the Ministries to develop the preparatory steps for achieving its post 2020 targets and in defining its energy transition pathways over the next two years (2018-19). SSEF is committed to set up a multi-stakeholder platform that should foster public and private dialogue, partnerships and investments for the clean energy sector of India. SDC has been requested to accompany this process which is coinciding with the critical period (2018-19) when the roadmap towards the realization of the NDCs plan needs to be spelt out.

In addition to that, the support of a comprehensive work at the policy level will allow SDC to capitalize from its past and ongoing energy efficiency/renewable energy projects and contribute to the policy dialogue from its long-standing work in these topics.
Obiettivi Facilitate achievement of India’s Nationally Determined Contribution, through evidence based energy transition pathways and financial mechanisms needed for achieving clean energy targets.
Effetti a medio termine (i) Energy policy and programmes based on sound information and multi-stakeholders consultations are developed; and (ii) Appropriate financing mechanisms to implement the energy policy are defined.
