Kyiv, 11 December 2023 – The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine supported the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with a new batch of medical humanitarian aid. The Ministry received seven ambulances – two Toyota cars and five Mercedes-Benz 519 cars, equipped with sets of necessary medical equipment.

Ambulances will be transferred to medical facilities in Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions to provide emergency assistance to affected populations. Most of the regions are front-line, suffering from constant shelling and a critical condition of the road infrastructure. The donated vehicles will ensure the evacuation of the wounded and sick people and will support the fast and high-quality work of medical workers in these regions.

“We are working to ensure that Ukrainians in any region are provided with high-quality, accessible and free medical care. We thank our international partners for continuing to donate ambulances. In the near future, these cars will be sent to the regions where they are needed the most, and will help our heroic doctors save people’s lives,” said Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Mariia Karchevych during the handover of the vehicles.

In total, in 2023, Switzerland has already donated 25 ambulances to Ukraine.

“I hope these ambulances will make the work of healthcare workers easier and, in some cases, safer. Their dedicated work saves the lives of Ukrainians every day. Therefore, it is a great honour for me today to hand over these ambulances to medical staff and personally meet these brave people who work hard to provide medical services to the most vulnerable Ukrainians,” said Félix Baumann, Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 480 ambulances have been destroyed or damaged since the beginning of the Russia’s full-scale invasion.
