Ukraine: Switzerland sends ambulances and more fire engines

Switzerland is continuing its long-term support efforts in Ukraine. On Thursday 13 April, local NGOs in Kyiv received five used ambulances donated by the Canton of Basel-Stadt and the City of Zurich. More supplies and training will follow in the weeks to come. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which is part of the FDFA, is funding and organising the transport.

At its meeting on 29 March, the Federal Council decided to enact further sanctions against Russia. This aligns Switzerland with the European Union, which recently adopted a tenth package of sanctions. The latest measures also include humanitarian exemptions and introduce a new means of safeguarding Swiss economic interests in specific cases. The changes come into effect at 8pm on 29 March.
President of the Swiss Confederation attends high-level conference in Paris in support of Ukraine

Co-chaired by France and Ukraine, the high-level conference aims to coordinate the emergency and humanitarian response in support of Ukraine ahead of the winter months. An international network has been established to represent the states and international organisations in the future mechanism to coordinate aid to Ukraine, particularly in the areas of electricity, water, food security, health, and transport. Switzerland is contributing CHF 100 million to the international aid effort for Ukraine this winter.

On 23 November, the Federal Council adopted further sanctions against Russia. It is thus adopting in principle the latest measures adopted by the European Union (EU) as part of its eighth package of sanctions. The measures will enter into force at 6pm on 23 November.

Під час офіційної церемонії Швейцарія передала Міністерству реінтеграції тимчасово окупованих територій України понад 200’000 експрес-тестів на антиген Covid-19 як гуманітарну допомогу. Ці тести, які далі будуть відправлені до Херсонської області, є частиною наймасштабнішої за всю історію надання Швейцарією допомоги 13-тої гуманітарної місії на схід України, яка вчергове передає гуманітарну допомогу постраждалому від конфлікту населенню по обидва боки лінії зіткнення.

In a triumph for Swiss diplomacy, the 26th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has opened with the Chairperson-in-Office, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák, appointing Ambassador Heidi Grau as Special Representative for Ukraine. A renowned Swiss expert on Eastern Europe, Ambassador Grau thus assumes a key role in working towards an end to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis welcomes the news of her appointment and considers this a testament to the reputation Swiss diplomacy enjoys within and beyond the OSCE.

Направляючи 10-ту гуманітарну місію на схід України, Уряд Швейцарії вчергове надає гуманітарну допомогу постраждалому від конфлікту населенню. З 22-го травня по 5-те червня 2019 року Відділ гуманітарної допомоги Швейцарської агенції розвитку та співробітництва (ВГД/SDC) доправляє 2 500 тон гуманітарних вантажів загальною вартістю 2, 7 млн. швейцарських франків партнерським організаціям у Донецькій та Луганській областях. Відповідно до гуманітарних принципів Швейцарія надає допомогу, щоб забезпечити людям по обидва боки лінії розмежування доступ до питної води та базових медичних послуг.
Swiss aid convoys to eastern Ukraine reach initial destinations

Switzerland's eighth aid consignment has arrived in eastern Ukraine. It consists of six convoys, three of which are being sent across the line of contact to the region outside of Kyiv's control. The aid deliveries are mainly comprised of water treatment chemicals and medical supplies and equipment. This includes treatments for tuberculosis (TB) in the Luhansk area, which currently has the highest incidence of the disease in Europe.

The seventh Swiss Humanitarian Aid convoy reached the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk earlier today. The consignment included a new device to speed up the diagnosis of tuberculosis and help reduce the spread of this dangerous lung disease.
