Background |
More than 95% of poor people live in rural areas. In the north west region of Vietnam, especially in the four upland districts, which are selected to implement the PALD phase I and II in Northern provinces of Son La, Phu Tho and Yen Bai (Annex 2), where ethnic minority accounts for more than 60%, the poverty rates reaches 49% in 2009[1]. [1] Yen Lap (Phu Tho) : 27.3% ; Mai Son (Son La) 27.5%; Van Chan (Yen Bai): 21.6% ; Tram Tau (Yen Bai): 48.16% |
Objectives |
To increase farmer's incomes by strengthening sustainable and replicable livestock services, production systems, and by providing remote households with better access to local and regional markets. |
Target groups |
Key target group will be over 10’200 household direct beneficiaries members of FIGs and about 65’000 household indirect beneficiaries in 64 communes of 4 districts. |
Medium-term outcomes |
Outcome 1: Farmers adopt skills and knowledge on pig and poultry production technologies and benefit from better access to livestock related services, which are consolidated through supporting local partners’ capacity building. Outcome 2: Farmers’ incomes increase by strengthening house-based economic calculations and building and consolidating reliable market linkages. Outcome 3: Experience is capitalized and shared between all related stakeholders in order to scale up at provincial and national levels. |
