16.01.2026 – Developments in the region
The Embassy of Switzerland in Iran closely monitors the situation in the region. The risk of escalation in the region remains high. The development of the situation is uncertain and a further deterioration of the security situation throughout the country is possible at any time. Since the end of December 2025, protests have been increasing across the country.
For Swiss nationals: Please refer to the travel advice of the FDFA and keep yourself informed about the current situation. Travel to Iran is advised against. Swiss nationals who remain in Iran or travel there contrary to the recommendations of the FDFA must be aware that Switzerland may only be able to provide limited services or none at all if the security situation deteriorates further.
The Embassy of Switzerland in Iran is currently open but is not providing any consular services due to internet restrictions. Given the volatile situation, it is currently not possible to predict when consular services will resume.

It is currently not possible to apply for a visa for Switzerland and/or the Schengen area in Tehran. The current entry requirements for the Schengen area and Switzerland remain valid in all cases.
