Eleven years into the Syria crisis, Jordan continues to host approximately 1.3 million Syrians, of which 673,957 are registered with UNHCR, in addition to 90,000 refugees and asylum seekers from other nationalities.

As the crisis has become increasingly protracted, social, economic, and political pressures have increased, with staggering poverty and unemployment rates for refugees of all nationalities and host community members, now compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic. The spread of Coronavirus has placed added demands on Jordan’s healthcare system; efforts to contain it have exacted a heavy toll by aggravating and deepening vulnerabilities of migrant workers, Syrian refugees, other refugee populations, host communities, and particular subsets of the Jordanian population including youth, women, and the elderly.

Ten years on and the Jordan INGO Forum’s coordination remains a relevant framework to advocate for the shrinking policy and advocacy space for humanitarian and development organizations and work towards improving living conditions of refugee communities and their hosts, helping to measure progress and contributions across various sectors.

Key achivements and lessons learnt from SDC small project contribution 7F-06833.07.06 include:

• Stronger, more coordinated voice of INGOs with key stakeholders including donors and the government
• Production of advocacy papers related to I/NGO operational space, protection space, Humanitarian Development Nexus and Jordan compact policy monitoring
• Increased support to INGOs facing challenges with GoJ actors, for instance, suspending foreign funding mechanisms and negotiating a waiver/process for NGOs to cope with Defence Order 6 risks
• Advancing the localisation agenda by enabling the official representation of Natioal NGO partners in the Humanitarian Partners Forum
• Stakeholders which can significantly impact collective engagement and cohesion
