Hintergrund | Historically, Pakistan has suffered recurring natural disasters, political turmoil and security issues, which has forced a large number of population to move out to safer and secure areas, thus giving rise to a number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s). In the urban slum areas of Islamabad a large number of IDPs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and other parts of the country have found refuge. Among issues like poverty, education and lack of facilities, one of the biggest challenge that these poor families face is the protection of the children and women. In the presence of high percentage of out of the school children this vulnerability is multiplied. The Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) estimates 18% Boys / 21% Girls in peri-urban/rural areas of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) are out of school, at national level over 25 million children don’t have access to regular education. The Mashal school project is providing education and protection service in the peri-urban area known as Bari Imam, which is illegally occupied by a large number of stranded, deprived people from all over the country. |
Ziele | By providing education and protection services to young Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), often living as street children, in the peri-urban area of Islamabad, will help to develop an active and responsible society. |
