Swiss Ambassador and the Mayor of the City of Kragujevac sign a Cooperation Agreement within the Education to Employment (E2E) project

On 18 October 2021 Swiss Ambassador Urs Schmid met with Mayor of the City of Kragujevac Nikola Dasic to discuss issues regarding economic development and employment, especially concerning the labor market and its challenges. An agreement of cooperation was signed which envisages the support of the City of Kragujevac to the Swiss-Serbian E2E project on raising the employability of young people through the organization of work-based-learning training with employers from the City of Kragujevac territory. The agreement is a positive sign that trainings for young people are becoming sustainable permanent solutions and that companies and local self-governments are participating in it together.

Round tables "Let’s Meet - Refugees Our Neighbours" held in Pirot, Obrenovac and Kikinda

As an integral part of a project implemented by the Crisis Response and Policy Centre  (CRPC) in partnership with the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), three round tables entitled "Let's meet - Refugees our neighbors", were held in September and October 2021. Inclusion and integration of persons in mixed migration movement is one of the project objectives and accordingly panel discussions were organized in cities that accommodate reception centers - Pirot, Obrenovac and Kikinda.

Serbian human rights lawyer named regional UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award winner

Nikola Kovacevic, an independent human rights lawyer, who has tirelessly supported asylum-seekers and refugees, especially addressing the issues of access to territory and asylum procedure, as well as the practice of collective expulsions (pushbacks), has been named the 2021 Regional winner of the UN Refugee Agency’s Nansen Refugee Award in Europe. This is the first time a person from Serbia and Western Balkans is granted with the award established almost seven decades ago. 

Swiss ambassador visits waste processing factory Yunirisk in Barajevo

On 30th September, 2021, Ambassador Urs Schmid visited the new waste processing plant of the Swiss company Yunirisk in Barajevo. The factory will process hazardous and non-hazardous industrial waste based on an innovative technology, being also introduced in several other European countries.

As a side event to the 10th annual meeting of the Joint Economic Commission between Switzerland and Serbia, the Swiss Embassy organized together with important Swiss and local partners (such as the Science Technology Park in Belgrade, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the Swiss-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia) a joint exhibition showcasing more than 30 innovative clean-tech-solutions developed by Swiss and Serbian start-ups and companies. 

10th meeting of the Joint Economic Committee Serbia-Switzerland

On the margins of the 10th meeting of the Joint Economic Committee Serbia-Switzerland in Belgrade on the 21st of September, Switzerland and Serbia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing the cooperation of our two countries under the Swiss Program “Capacities for Trade Policies” for the period 2021 to 2024. 

Official inauguration of Regent Lighting in Svilajnac

On 20th September 2021, the President of the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, inaugurated the new factory of the Swiss company Regent Lighting in Svilajnac, in presence of the Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr. Urs Schmid, the Major of the Municipality of Svilajnac, Mr. Predrag Milanović, and representatives of the owner families and the management team of the company.
