On 28 July, after two years of not being able to do so, the Embassy hosted the Swiss National Day reception at the Residence of Switzerland in Dar es Salaam. The event was attended by approximately 200 Swiss citizens, heads of diplomatic missions, government officials, representatives of organisations and businesses, as well as Tanzanian friends of Switzerland.
The celebrations began with the Swiss and Tanzanian national anthems followed by a welcome speech by the Ambassador of Switzerland to Tanzania, Didier Chassot. The guest of honour, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula conveyed a congratulatory message on behalf of the Government and the people of Tanzania. As per tradition, guests were treated to Swiss raclette and wine.
The Swiss National Day commemorates the founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291 and the Alliance between the three Cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden, which grew over the centuries into modern Switzerland.
