Youth for Change

SDC supports efforts to mobilize and empower young people in BiH to become agents of change. Young people will develop their competences and mobilize their peers in youth-led community projects. Successful and motivated young people will be further supported to become social entrepreneurs and create decent jobs. They will serve as role models for other youth and lay the groundwork for new social and economic values in their local communities.

Background Young women and men in BiH are increasingly turning into a frustrated and passive post-war generation. This sense of powerlessness has become a core element of their self-identity. The complex and, to a large extent, paralyzed government structures in BiH lack the required vision and strategy to address burning issues, such as the fact that 38% of young people are unemployed.  Youth is not encouraged to take an active role in society and, despite the legal framework for youth development, less than half of the municipalities have adopted any youth strategy
Target The overall goal of Mozaik's Strategy is that young women and men contribute to the development of more prosperous local communities for the benefit of all. They are active and engaged members of society, create and obtain (self) employment, and improve the living conditions of residents in their local communities.
Target group Direct project beneficiaries are about 20,000 mobilized young people (including vulnerable groups) and their respective municipalities. End beneficiaries are 90,000 citizens who will benefit from the community projects and social business ideas.
Outcomes

Outcome 1: Young women and men develop into leaders who build social cohesion by uniting and mobilising volunteers and municipal and private sector resources and by leading an inclusive implementation of the municipal YouthBank grant-making program.

Outcome 2: Young women and men become social entrepreneurs and create new and decent jobs accessible to all, thus becoming role models for other youth in BiH.
