UNRWA 2023 Emergency Appeal Lebanon

Projekt abgeschlossen

Due to the several crises that have affected Lebanon over the past three years, the needs of Palestinian refugees have become more urgent. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is crucial to respond to the most basic needs of Palestine refugees as well as to maintain regional stability. Thus, in response to UNRWA's Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan Emergency Appeal 2023, Switzerland designates its support to the urgent needs of Palestine refugees in Lebanon, including the provision of cash assistance.

Hintergrund Palestine refugees, who were already one of the most vulnerable communities in Lebanon, are suffering greatly as a result of the deteriorating situation in the country and increasing violence in the camps. UNRWA continues to work to ensure Palestine refugees' access to essential services under these circumstances. Over the past years, Palestine refugees’ dependancy on UNRWA has increased, while the Agency's budget did not grow to match the rising inflation and costs of goods and services in Lebanon. To catter to the most pressing needs of Palestine refugees, UNRWA has launched two emergency interventions in 2023, one Emergency Appeal for Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, and one Flash Appeal following the damages created by the violent clashes in Ein El Helweh, Lebanon’s largest Palestinian Camp.
