Teaser: In the framework of the Kyiv International Lectures Series Mr. Arturas Zuokas will address questions such as:
- problems/ transformation of post -Soviet countries, their modernization
- reorganization in local governance (experience as three terms Mayor of Vilnius)
- strong leadership in other European cities
- how self -government can influence national government and achieve fundamental changes.
Arturas Zuokas is a multi-dimensional leader whose career has thus far spanned transitions from journalism to entrepreneurship to politics. He was born in 1968 in Lithuania and graduated from the University of Vilnius. As a war correspondent, he provided first-hand televised reports for British and Lithuanian media from combat zones located in countries as distant as Iraq, Chechnya, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Deciding to become an entrepreneur, Arturas’ business interests were diverse. Starting in the area of electronics sales and progressing to real estate, by the age of 26, he had achieved solid financial success. Feeling the need for new challenges, Arturas turned to the political arena. He was elected as Mayor of Vilnius, Lithuania in 2000 and served until 2007 and reelected in 2011 till 2015. He is one of the founding members and current Executive Director of the Azzara Foundation and a long-time member as well as past President of the Rotary Club in Lithuania.
The lecture takes place on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 6 pm, at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Volodymyrska Street no. 60, Kyiv). After his presentation Mr. Zuokas is willing to engage in a discussion with the public. The event will be held in English; simultaneous translation into Ukrainian will be provided. The lecture will be followed by a cocktail reception.
