The Consulate General of Switzerland in Shanghai, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Shanghai, invites you to the screening of “Mario”, a heartfelt Swiss film about a sweet romance and a tough choice. 

Synopsis: 

Young Swiss soccer player Mario has devoted his entire life to fulfilling his and his father’s dream of becoming an international professional soccer star. All this changes when his club recruits a rising star from Germany Leon who is a striker too. The question is: Who will make it onto the first club team?  But Mario does not want to think about that. He wants to feel his first love. When rumors appears in the club, Mario sees his career as a professional soccer player in danger. He is forced to choose between love and happiness and his dreams of success and stardom, a choice that might hunt him until the end of his life.

About the director:

Marcel Gisler, born in 1960 in Altstätten, Switzerland, studied Drama and Philosophy at the Freie Universität Berlin. From 1999 to 2008 he was a visiting lecturer at different film schools (ESAV Geneva, écal Lausanne, F+F Zürich). Since 2009 he has lectured on direction of actors, screenwriting and directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. He is a member of the Swiss Film Academy and the European Film Academy EFA.
