Exhibition
A selection of distinctive Bachelor, Master and research projects from the seven subject areas of the Department of Design at Zurich University of the Arts will be on showcase to demonstrate the school’s notion of design, how design is understood and taught today, and how design can contribute to social and technological innovations.

A collaboration between HKDI and ZHdK (Zurich University of the Arts), a leading University famous for its long design tradition and innovation potential, on how design as a discipline has the power to tackle complex real life problems in the commercial world and the society problems by using Design Strategies and Design Thinking. This four-day program touches the Design & Economy, Design & Identity, Design & Socitey, Design & Technology, targeting on the managerial level executives, creative industries, public services, and educators from primary through tertiary institutions, to echo the Hong Kong government’s recent initiative. This strategic partnership aims at building Hong Kong as a hub of a future oriented design culture, embedding design methods, design thinking and design strategies in Asia.

The 32nd Macao International Music Festival
Theater
To commemorate the 170th anniversary of the death of Donizetti, the Macao International Music Festival will kick off with the timeless Elixir of Love in a production by Zurich Opera House. The highly-praised German stage director, Grischa Asagaroff will join hands with tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz, pupil of Plácido Domingo, and acclaimed soprano Laura Giordano to enlighten us about the magical power of love amidst the magnificent music by this great Italian composer!

Lecture
Curiously food and nutrition were for a long period not touched by design. Starting with the question of production and later consumption, packaging and culture of food, design today plays a vital role when it comes to innovation in the food sector. Prof. Michael Krohn of Zurich University of the Arts, will bring us to a closer and deeper look at the power of Design Thinking in resolving “wicked problems” in different facets of our lives, hence promoting its relevance and adoption in all walks of life.

Prof. Ilya Gringolts from the Department of Music at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), has been invited to perfom in Hong Kong on 22 September 2018. Youngest winner of the prestigious International Violin Competition Premio Paginini, internationally-acclaimed violinist Ilya Gringolts has been revered for his virtuosic playing and sensitive interpretations towards the classical music repertoire. Having performed with leading orchestras around the world that has included the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and NHK Symphony, Gringolts will be making his Hong Kong début with Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

Each year, venturelab selects 10 of the most promising Swiss-based startups, for an international business development program in China. The ten winners, the "Swiss National Startup Team" travel to Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin, where they get acquainted with the Chinese market and get introduced to investors and potential business partners.

Lecture
A team of experts from Switzerland, Cuba and India are researching the characteristics of a new type of cement called LC3 (limestone calcined clay cement) which has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions up to 30 percent compared to standard cementand producing it on a trial basis. The project is led by the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). An Information Day on the LC3 is going to be held on August 5 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Dimitri de Perrot: A Sonic Oasis in Hectic Hong Kong

If we keep our eyes and ears open and our minds alert, day-to-day we will be having a whole lot more fun. Dimitri de Perrot is a Swiss artist, musician, and theatre director. His primary interest lies in sound art, and his work often draws from his experience working with stage actors. His two sound-based installations, MYOUSIC and UNLESS, will open up new perspectives for the audience, allowing them to view the world in bold, new light. Dimitri has received the grant from The Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia to produce and premiere UNLESS in China.
