Pakistan Direct Action Early Recovery after Floods 2022

Around 23’900 schools, 1’460 health facilities and 13’000 km of roads have also reportedly been damaged. More than 5’000 schools are being used as temporary shelter. Some 7,9 million people are reportedly displaced, including some 598’000 people living in emergency camps. Because crops are failing and the completely flooded land cannot be cultivated, there is great concern about food security. The risk of transmission of waterborne diseases is also high.

The remote mountainous Tehsil Bahrain district of the Swat Valley is especially vulnerable. Over 74 schools have been damaged due to the floods and winter months are approaching soon. Four of them have been completely washed away and a substantial number of schools are hardly or not accessible for school children.

Outcome 1: Flood affected school children in Swat Valley have again access to school classes.

Outcome 2: School children and villagers are given a safe access way to schools and other basic services (including markets).

Outcome 3: School children and villagers have access to water (especially in the sanitary facilities and water distribution points at the schools).

Resultados previstos:  

Output 1: Rapid repair of 10 to 12 damaged schools (Outcome 1)

Output 2: Rehabilitation of access pathways to another 6 - 8 damaged or non-damaged schools (Outcome 2)

Output 3: Rehabilitation of another 5 – 7 Water supply systems with preference in villages where schools are repaired / access is provided (Outcome 3)

Resultados de las fases anteriores:   14’000 men, women and children were reached with regained acces to drinking water (6’800 persons), access to schools for 900 pupils and three enabled rivers crossings for 4’500 dwellers. Cash for work involved 200 workers for the repair works and provided income to theirs families.
