Direct: UNDRR, SFDRR member states, relevant UN agencies, development banks, regional organizations, representatives of civil society, private sector and academia, local actors, experts and public and private sector decision makers in key economic development sectors, policy negotiators and authoritative voices in climate change, including adaptation and loss and damage.

Indirect: Vulnerable populations worldwide exposed to natural hazards and at risk of disasters.

• Review Sendai Framework implementation progress, including the calls to action of the Political Declaration on the midterm review of the SFDRR, identify key areas of progress and success and areas where concerted attention is needed, as well as strengthen commitments to accelerating its implementation, including in special country contexts.
• Take stock of the implementation of national and local strategies and plans for disaster risk reduction, taking into account the risks and impacts of recent disasters, in synergy with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other global policy processes, programs of action and conference outcomes, including the Paris Agreement and the Summit of the Future (22-23 September, 2024).
• Strengthen existing, and forge new, networks and partnerships at international, national, and local levels, sharing practice and knowledge on disaster risk-informed policies, programs and investments, including on sustainable development, climate issues, and the Early Warnings for All Initiative; and
• Promote the integration of disaster risk management within and across relevant sectors.

Resultados previstos:  

As host and co-Chair, Switzerland enables UNDRR financially and technically, aiming at

• a successful 8th Platform, with a focus on the progress made on implementing the calls to action of the Political Declaration on the Midterm Review of the SFDRR, and on the remaining gaps and challenges, with a view to identifying concrete solutions and actionable measures to correct course.
• an impactful and inclusive event that increases coherence among global agendas, has a reduced environmental and carbon footprint, and ensures inclusion, representation and equal participation.

Switzerland lends political support and gives high-level visibility to the Platform and works closely with UNDRR to shape the elements of the Co-Chair’s Summary.

Resultados de las fases anteriores:   Since 2007, the Global Platform for DRR has got together governments, United Nations agencies, NGOs, scientists, practitioners, and other stakeholders to review and discuss progress in the accomplishment of global DRR agreements: the 2005 Hyogo Framework for Action and its post-2015 successor, the Sendai Framework (SFDRR). Seven sessions of the Global Platform have taken place since 2007; the latest was held in Bali in 2022. These sessions have evolved towards multistakeholder events, offering a growing number of participants the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences, learn about new and innovative approaches, and strengthen collaboration to accelerate the reduction of disaster risk. The Global Platform has also become a crucial mechanism to foster coherence in the implementation of other global agendas, including the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.

External coordination through the UNDRR Support Group (Geneva) and through the active participation in the "Group of Friends DRR” (New York).

Coordination on Swiss level through the Swiss consultative group on DRR (SDC, SECO, FOEN, FOCP, PLANAT, LAINAT, MeteoSwiss, Swiss NGO DRR platform, academia and private sector).
