Contexto |
On 25 April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, followed by another earthquake on May 12th. More than 8,500 people were killed, over 600,000 houses destroyed or damaged, leaving ca. 3 mio people homeless. The earthquakes affected almost a third of Nepal’s population. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) launched an appeal for USD 423 mio for humanitarian relief for the affected people and their protection. The Government of Nepal leads the response through the National Emergency Operation Centre. Crucial at this point of transition from relief to recovery will be to link recovery interventions with existing efforts of peace and state building and ensure a conflict sensitive aid delivery that recognizes the needs of the most affected and disadvantaged groups and avoids re-enforcing structures of social and economic inequality. |
