Swiss Hosting 2022 Effective Development Cooperation Summit (GPEDC High-Level Meeting)
Switzerland will host the 2022 Effective Development Cooperation Summit, to be held in Geneva and hybrid, on the 12-14 December 2022. It is an opportunity to focus on the “how” of development cooperation, it will take stock of the implementation of the principles of effective development cooperation since 2011. The Summit will define the Partnership’s contribution to the Decade of Action to deliver on the SDGs and recovery from COVID19 pandemic.

Contesto | Switzerland has been committed to the global Development Effectiveness Agenda since the process started in 2005. In 2019, Switzerland has been nominated for the function of co-chair of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC). With the Summit, Switzerland concludes its Co-chairmanship and the important measures that were taken such as the reform of the monitoring system and the Review. |
Obiettivi | The Effective Development Cooperation Summit brings about a renewed international commitment to the effectivness principles. It establishes a functioning implementation mechanism at country level based on multi-stakeholder engagement and dialogue (action dialogues), a functioning governance of the GPEDC, and a reformed monitoring system. Switzerland’s role as host is recognized and appreciated. |

Outcome 1: High-level participants engage actively and represent all relevant stakeholders of the GPEDC. Outcome 2: An ambitious outcome document of the Summit brings together the results of the work program and its action areas. A strong political statement/commitment is endorsed connecting the effectiveness principles with the current global challenges. Outcome 3: The conference itself is inclusive and dynamic, albeit in hybrid format. It allows for global participation in the context of COVID-19 and Climate Change. |
Risultati |
Risultati principali attesi: 1a) Widespread awareness about the importance of the Summit amongst the expected participants (decision makers in development agencies and relevant umbrella organizations of civil society private sector etc.) is achieved. 1b) Save-the-date, invitations and reminders reach the expected participants on time. 1c) The Summit and its topics are discussed in relevant international fora throughout the year 2022. 2a) The action areas have advanced on their work plans and the results are included in the conference program. 2b) The key messages have been discussed in their respective constituencies and a draft outcome document has been consulted with all key stakeholders. The key messages and the outcome document address the perceived current global challenges. 3a) Attendance of 500-600 physical participants in Geneva and over two thousand virtual participants, including High-Level attendees, is achieved. 3b) Adequate technical infrastructure and support allows for the smooth running of the hybrid format. 3c) All requirements for global participation are met during the Summit. |
