On 15 October 2014 the President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, received Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov in Bern for an official visit. Talks centred on Switzerland's activities within the framework of its current OSCE Chairmanship, political developments in the Western Balkans and Ukraine, and bilateral relations.

The President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, is to take part in the 10th Summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) being held on 16 and 17 October in Milan, Italy. ASEM is the most important platform for political dialogue between Asia and Europe. The purpose of this meeting between heads of state and government is to discuss issues of common interest to the two continents.

The President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Bukhalter, received the President of Bulgaria, Rosen Plevneliev, on Monday 13 October 2014 during the latter’s official visit to Switzerland. Talks focused on relations and cooperation between Switzerland and Bulgaria, notably in the field of vocational education and training. The meeting, also attended by Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga, included discussions on Swiss policy on Europe, Switzerland's contribution to EU enlargement and various topical international issues, especially those related to the OSCE, which Switzerland is chairing in 2014.
