Dear fellow citizens,

It is a great honour for me to assume this office and to serve you as President of the Swiss Confederation in 2022. The pandemic has driven us apart, but it has not divided us. It never will: with the strength of our pluralism and our innovative spirit, we can overcome this challenge together.

As the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), I have always underlined the link between domestic and foreign policy. During my presidential year, I will seek to make this link even clearer. In my dual role as President of the Swiss Confederation and head of the FDFA, I will invite our foreign partners – within the limits dictated by the pandemic – to join me in Switzerland, where our citizens help to shape our foreign policy objectives.

As President, I have the wonderful opportunity to maintain a more direct contact with the people, which I will gladly take advantage of. I feel honored to fulfill the task of chairing the Federal Council, along with my other representational duties.

Thank you for accompanying me in my new role.

Ignazio Cassis

President of the Swiss Confederation
