On 27 January, President Hans-Rudolf Merz will head a delegation to receive the Chinese Prime Minister, WEN Jiabao, on an official working visit to Bern. He will be accompanied by Vice-President Doris Leuthard, head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Federal Councillor Pascal Couchepin, head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs and Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

Discussions are expected to include bilateral relations, especially the current economic situation linked to the financial crisis, as well as political dialogue and cooperation between China and Switzerland in the fields of science and technology. During the visit, a new investment protection agreement is also expected to be signed by the Chinese Minister of Commerce CHEN Deming and Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard.

Following the discussions in Bern, the Chinese delegation, which will also include the Foreign Minister, the Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission - China's economic steering body - and the Minister of Commerce, will travel on to the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos.
