Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, met yesterday in Geneva with Dan Meridor, Deputy Prime Minister Israel.

The discussion between Federal Councillor Calmy-Rey and Dan Meridor, Deputy Prime Minister, focused on bilateral relations between the two countries.

Switzerland and Israel enjoy close ties. 15,000 Swiss currently live in Israel and are thus the largest Swiss expatriate community in Asia.

Israel is the most important export market for Switzerland in the entire Middle East/North Africa region.

The foreign ministries of the two countries have conducted a regular political dialogue since 2004.
