Bern, Press releases, 15.07.2012

Presence Switzerland in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs is launching an app entitled Swiss Games. It is a new instrument in Switzerland's national communication strategy. The aim is to present Switzerland to young people in a playful and entertaining way. The Swiss Games will be used for the first time in the framework of the House of Switzerland UK 2012 at the Olympic Games in London.

Swiss Games is a collection of games for mobile devices and is part of the new audiovisual communication approach that presence Switzerland is developing for Switzerland's national communication. The games are an additional element to the existing offer. They present Switzerland's strengths and values in a modern and playful manner. After the launch in the House of Switzerland UK 2012 at the Olympic Games in London, Swiss Games will be used for future projects in Switzerland's national communication.

"Today games are part and parcel of life for young people. This is a chance that we have to exploit. The Swiss Games app will help younger people to find out more about Switzerland. According to image studies, this age cohort does not know very much about Switzerland and we want to use new methods to raise their awareness", says ambassador Nicolas Bideau, head of Presence Switzerland.

Swiss Games were jointly developed by Presence Switzerland and a game studio from Zürich and realized in collaboration with the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia and the City and Canton of Zürich. There are three different games: a modern version of the traditional game of  Talerschwingen in which a coin has to be rolled around in a dish, a jump and run game called Heidi on the move in which the main character Heidi guides players through various themed landscapes in Switzerland and an augmented reality game especially designed for London.

Swiss Games are available to the Swiss public as of today.
