A number of staff changes and conferments of ambassadorial titles have been announced for the summer of 2024 for several Swiss representations abroad, at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), as part of the FDFA's periodic transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council.

Appointments

Urs Bucher, currently head of mission in Tel Aviv, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Czech Republic, based in Prague.

Gabriele Enrico Derighetti, currently head of mission in San José, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Bosnia and Herzegovina, based in Sarajevo.

Daniel Derzic, currently head of mission in Montevideo, has been appointed chargé d'affaires in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, based in Yangon.

Roger Dubach, currently deputy director (with the title of ambassador) in the Directorate of International Law at the FDFA in Bern, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Japan, based in Tokyo.

Patrick Egloff, currently ambassador for the State of Eritrea and chargé d'affaires for Sudan in Bern, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Republic of the Niger and the Republic of Chad, and permanent representative of Switzerland to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), based in Abuja.

Barbara Gonzenbach, most recently deputy head of mission in Singapore, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Kiribati, the Republic of Nauru, the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the Republic of Vanuatu, based in Canberra.

Daniel Hunn, currently head of mission in Sarajevo, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Iraq, based in Baghdad.

Benno Laggner, most recently permanent representative of Switzerland to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) in Vienna, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, based in Luxembourg.

Anne Lugon-Moulin, currently head of mission in Abidjan, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Serbia and to Montenegro, based in Belgrade.

Jacques Pitteloud, currently head of mission in Washington, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Belgium and permanent representative of Switzerland to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), based in Brussels.

Guillaume Scheurer, currently head of mission in Rabat, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Turkey, based in Ankara.

Nikolas Stürchler Gonzenbach, currently adviser to the directorate of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) at the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) in Bern, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Australia, based in Canberra.

Stefano Toscano, currently director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) in Geneva, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Madagascar, the Union of the Comoros and the Republic of Seychelles, based in Antananarivo.

Conferment of FDFA ambassadorial titles at the FDFA

Tim Enderlin, currently head of mission in Yangon, has been awarded the title of ambassador for his new role as head of the Peace and Human Rights Division at the State Secretariat of the FDFA in Bern.

Conferment of ambassadorial titles elsewhere

Tobias Privitelli, currently deputy high representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, has been awarded the title of ambassador for his new role as director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) in Geneva.

Andrea Rauber Saxer, most recently head of Human Resources and assistant director of the Directorate for Resources at the FDFA in Bern, has been awarded the title of ambassador for her new role as head of the Bilateral Economic Relations Division and member of the board of directors at SECO at the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) in Bern.
