The North American start-up Ostorlab wins the Cyber Start-up Challenge 2023 of armasuisse Science and Technology. The company convinced the jury and was able to present its innovative methods for the security analysis of mobile applications at the Cyber-Defence (CYD) Campus Conference on 26 October 2023.
Ostorlab has developed a mobile application scanner which enables organisations to efficiently identify security loopholes in mobile applications, both in Android and in iOS applications.
Identifying vulnerabilities thanks to comprehensive analysis methods
Ostorlab uses static and dynamic analysis methods to identify vulnerabilities which can cause considerable damage to the security and reputation of companies. These range from security breaches to data leaks and compromised communication. Other potential vulnerabilities are unauthorised accesses, obsolete software components, exposed sensitive information, poor encryption practices and insecure data transmissions.
Ostorlab Mobile’s application scanner also supports Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) files to detect obsolete and vulnerable dependencies. In addition, the scanner also has automated app interactions for comprehensive security tests and holds a strong track record in detecting and reporting critical vulnerabilities, which underscores its efficiency. Important companies all over the world place their trust in Ostorlab. These include encryption companies and several leading banks.
Supporting start-ups and innovative technologies
The Cyber Start-Up Challenge was held this year for the fourth time. In June 2023, the Cyber-Defence Campus launched its call for the topic of innovative solutions in the area “Security of smartphone applications and their potential threats”. Ten start-ups responded to the call and presented their solutions to the jury, which consisted of cyber experts of the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). The Cyber-Defence Campus of armasuisse Science and Technology is already planning a new Cyber Start-up Challenge for 2024.
